Before the wedding

Choosing your wedding photographer in Brighton & Sussex.

Look for photographs you love across a complete wedding, an approach you feel comfortable with and clear information about coverage and delivery. A conversation should help you understand both the work and the person who will be beside you on the day.

Look beyond a few favourite photographs.

A portfolio helps you recognise a style, but a wedding contains many different kinds of photographs. Look at preparations, ceremony reactions, family groups, couple portraits and the reception. Ask how the photographer approaches the parts that matter most to you.

Notice whether you respond to the light, colour, feeling and composition. You do not have to know photographic terminology to recognise what you would love in your own album.

Ask how the photographs are made.

Natural photographs and elegant portraits can belong in the same wedding. The useful question is how much guidance you want and when it happens. Tell your photographer if you love carefully composed images, dislike being posed or feel nervous about the whole idea.

My approach brings attention to light and composition together with gentle direction and the real emotions of the day. I want our conversation to establish whether that feels right for you, rather than asking you to fit a label.

Talk about the actual wedding you are planning.

A Brighton city ceremony, a Sussex country-house celebration and a day across several venues have different practical needs. Share your locations, ceremony time and priorities. Ask how preparation and communication will work before the wedding.

Recommendations and reviews are useful, but they should support that conversation rather than replace it. What felt right for another couple may not be what matters most to you.

Understand what happens afterwards.

Confirm the coverage, payment arrangements, delivery expectations and what is included in the gallery or printed collection. If there are extras you would like, ask about them directly. Clarity now is kinder than assumptions later.

You are choosing someone to notice the people and moments you care about. Beautiful photographs matter, and so does feeling that you can enjoy the day while they are being made.
