Tell me what you are worried about.
Perhaps you dislike being the centre of attention. Perhaps your partner would rather avoid photographs altogether. You might love elegant portraits but worry they will feel awkward to make. These are useful things to tell me, not things you need to apologise for.
A pre-wedding conversation lets us talk about what you want and what would help. You can tell me privately about an angle you dislike, whether you prefer more guidance or whether having an audience would make you uncomfortable.
Show me what feels like you.
A few visual references can make a conversation much easier. You might like soft light, a strong composition, a photograph full of laughter or something very simple. We are not recreating another couple’s wedding. We are understanding what you respond to.
My editorial background means I pay attention to light, composition and small details. On a wedding day, that sits alongside the people and emotions in front of me. The photograph should still feel like yours.
Natural does not have to mean no guidance.
There are parts of the day when I am observing what is happening, and parts when a little direction is helpful. Family groups need organising. A portrait may benefit from a small adjustment or a quieter location. Neither means you have to perform a version of yourselves.
Give the portraits enough time that we are not trying to make everything happen in a hurried five minutes. A calmer setting gives you a chance to settle.

Decide what matters most.
Not every couple wants the same balance. If being with guests is your priority, say so. If you have dreamed of a beautiful set of couple portraits, say that too. We can discuss the balance before the day.
You do not need to become confident in front of every camera. You need to feel comfortable enough to let me help you with these photographs.
