Real weddings

Lena & Arturs. From Brighton to London, together.

Lena and Arturs began their wedding with a ceremony at Brighton Town Hall. Afterwards, just the three of us travelled to London, making photographs along the way before their portraits in the city and a banquet with friends and family at Ole Kyiv.

First, Brighton Town Hall.

Their day began with the ceremony at Brighton Town Hall. Then, rather than going straight to a reception, Lena and Arturs had a journey planned. We went to Brighton station together, just the couple and me, and picked up coffee before boarding the train.

That change of pace became part of the story. We were not simply moving from one place to another; they had time together in the middle of their wedding day.

Coffee, croissants and photographs on the train.

We spent a lovely hour on the train with coffee and croissants, making intimate photographs as we travelled. I liked having that space with just the two of them. The journey offered something different from a formal portrait session: small moments together, with the day still unfolding.

Those photographs belong to their wedding just as much as the ceremony or the celebration afterwards. They show how they chose to spend it.

Portraits in London.

When we arrived in London, we went straight to central photo locations I know well and made their portraits there.

An unexpected ice cream.

One of the sweetest moments came from an ice-cream van: the man working there gave my bride ice creams as a gift.

It made the photo session feel very relaxed and fun, and gave the groom a little more sugar to keep him going. That small, unexpected kindness became part of the photographs and part of what I remember about their day.

Everyone together at Ole Kyiv.

After the portraits in central London, we went to the Ukrainian restaurant Ole Kyiv. Their friends and family were there to celebrate with them over a banquet. The day had moved from the ceremony, through quiet time together, to a room full of their people.

I love that the journey was allowed to be part of it. A wedding across two cities does not need every moment between the main events to disappear from the photographs.

Planning your own day across different places.

If your wedding moves between locations, tell me what you imagine for the journey as well as the destinations. Allow for travelling and for the portraits you want, then share the timings with the people involved.

Lena and Arturs’ day was their own. Your plans may be completely different, but the same conversation helps us make room for the parts you will want to remember.
